Battle Copter and Battle Machine in the same attack?

How do you use a battle machine and a battle copter in the same attack? The only consistent pattern I've seen in attacks on my BB where both the BM and BC are used in the same attack: BM is used in first phase of the attack and it's destroyed prior to 100% base destruction.
