It's NOT phishing. It's SOCIAL ENGINEERING of SC Support.
This isn't just about semantics.
Having worked in the cybersecurity industry, phishing has a specific definition, and I see it being used incorrectly here.
When YOU are tricked into giving information to the attacker, that is PHISHING.
When attackers trick SC Support, that's Social Engineering (of SC Support).1
If you incorrectly tell Supercell you've been phished, they'll just roll their eyes and say you're responsible for giving up your info, so the blame is more on you.
But if you tell Supercell that their employees/Support have been socially engineered, they might be more open to listening.
I keep seeing people saying I've been phished
, My clan was phished
, My account was phished
. Only PEOPLE are phished. Inanimate objects can't be phished, since they don't think and thus can't be tricked into giving up sensitive info. But 9 times out of ten, when people say I've been phished
, they're really saying My account has been taken over even though I've never been tricked into giving sensitive info.
If you want SC to take our complaints more seriously, then starting using the terms correctly, or SC will assume YOU'RE at fault and not THEM.
- Technically Phishing is a form of social engineering, and so you could correctly say that sc support is being phished. But this is not how I see the term being used in this subreddit.
