Does COC delete super old inactive accounts?

TLDR:Super old (low level TH) inactive accounts gone; unlikely to have been phished, COC the culprit?

Background:
So I'm the leader of a dead clan that's super old (oldest messages in chat go back just about 6 years). OG leader passed the account to me and quit, most of the people eventually left until I had no choice but to cease running the clan. I left a couple of co-leaders who were inactive but had contributed greatly when we were still playing for old times sake. Moved to another clan with my active friends but kept an alt account as leader to hold the clan (basically playing COC in single player mode)

What happened:
2 weeks ago I saw surprised to see a notification pop up on clan chat. Turns out that one of my co-leaders had left the clan. But when I clicked on his profile it said "Couldn't find a player with the provided tag". Now thanks to the China/international server split, I knew that this description basically means that the acc had been removed from COC servers, but I didn't know why exactly they were banned. I figured maybe some hacker had tried to phish it and had gotten it banned (god knows why anyone would, the highest TH aside from me in my clan is mid-TH 9) and disregarded the issue.

However just minutes ago before I wrote this post, another notification popped up stating that another of my co-leaders had left the clan. Same description on his profile. Now like I said, the people in my clan were only TH8-9 and below. I don't think its likely that hackers would try to phish such low level accounts (if anything they should be going for MY alt since it's a significantly higher TH)

What I THINK happened:
So my suspicions are that the nuked accounts have been inactive for too long (the oldest messages are 6 years old, and some of my co-leaders have been inactive for way longer than that), and COC is the one who is going around deleting these accounts (or at least, making them disappear similar to how they would issue a permanent ban). Not sure why this is so, do they have a policy to sweep old accounts after n years of being inactive? (And even if they say they don't on the surface, is that really true?) Are they gonna keep going until I'm the only one left?

Having said that...
Is there anyone who knows what's going on/has a similar experience as I do? My co-leaders may have been gone for years (I don't even know who they are irl so the feelsbadman is compounded), but I'm a sentimental guy who can't bear to close the clan even if I'm the only one left. It's a shame that their accounts are basically getting nuked one by one, and I know I probably won't be able to do anything about it. But I'd like to have some closure on this matter nonetheless, even if only so I can finally let the past go and bid them a final farewell.

PS: sorry if this post should go under "simple questions"; I do realise I've written a long-ass story for what is basically a simple yes/no question (it would technically be a discussion if anyone has a story to share though). But it felt weird to post this in the megathread given the length.

Thanks :(
