I believe that in many super troops there is a theme of reaching their true potential from being rogue mercenaries to being brave warriors for their village. Not only do many of them wear the Super Troop symbol on their clothes and gear, but their other visual changes usually make them see more strategic and prepared in fights.
The greatest example may be the Goblin. In the game, they are described as greedy and foul creatures, and the villagers seem to have a disliking for them, which is is further stated in Clash-A-Rama.
As soon as you boost the Goblin, they are different. They have a new cloak ability, making them finally useful in fights that aren't for farming (like destroying the townhall efficiently) and they look less devious and more confident. Their greed seems to remain, but I believe that their objective isn't to hoard and steal as much as they can, but rather to help out their fellow army (by using their invisibility to destroy resource collectors or the aforementioned townhall for the rest of the army to have an easier time) while taking resources to benefit their village. The normal goblins use their bare hands to stuff loot into their sacks, while Sneaky Goblins utilise tools to break resource buildings faster. They also disguise themselves with a mask unless the careless Goblins.
Another factor is that you need to level them to a usually high level in order to use them, which could symbolise that they are thankful for their upgrades and put themselves into your service permanently.
